June: The Brewmasters BBQ

This month do not miss a BBQ experience like no other. Michael Kuzyk (Category 12 Brewing – Victoria) and Brent Mills (Four Winds Brewing – Vancouver) bring their breweries together for a Father’s Day BBQ featuring food from Hanks Untraditional BBQ and The Drake Eatery.

Four Winds Brewing Company joined the burgeoning BC craft beer scene and opened their doors to a public thirsty for new local offerings on June 1, 2013. Owned, operated and built from the ground up by the Mills family and friends, they are inspired by the Four Winds in gathering flavours from around the world to create our unique West Coast and European styles. Motivated by the limitless potential of beer, as well as the great brewers who came before them, they aim to craft bold beers with character, depth and balance.

About our Host:

Category 12’s head brewer and founder, Michael Kuzyk, has been brewing beer for nearly 20 years and has his doctorate in microbiology and biochemistry from UVic. But all work and no play makes… well, you know the rest. After leading the creation of several world-class research labs, he decided it was time to make his own – dedicated to the pursuit of exceptional beer.

Hank’s Untraditional BBQ is the alcohol-fuelled brainchild of Francois Pilon and Clark Deutscher. One cold rainy Ucluelet evening, over many pints of Pothole Filler and drams of Talisker they joked about opening a restaurant. Later in the evening, fast asleep with dreams of mini ninjas pounding on their heads (the hangover headache), the phone rang. Francois’ restaurant blew up and burnt to the ground (no joke). A couple days later, Clark closed his restaurant and Hank’s was born.

The Drake Eatery has quickly become a favourite watering hole among craft beer lovers in Victoria. The food is built around sustainability and local organic products and served in a casual atmosphere. With a focus on local craft beers the ever-changing lineup is sure to please even the most discerning beer drinker.
